As with every other movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are small details hidden in the franchise’s highest-grossing film, but you have to pause it to discover one especially important one.
Now that the list of the highest-grossing films in history is very topical while we see the ‘performance’ in theaters of the highly anticipated Avatar: The Sense of Waterit is not a bad moment to remember that, although its predecessor, Avatar, remains in the Top 1 with an almost unattainable 2.922 million dollars of collection, for a time a movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe snatched the position. It is true that James Cameron’s did not take long to recover it from the hand of its revival in China in 2021, but Avengers: Endgame it is without a doubt, the star movie of the superhero franchise.
And is not for less. The already mythical film directed by the Russo brothers resumed the action after the unforgettable snap of Thanos with which its predecessor had ended, Avengers: Infinity Warand the followers needed to know how the surviving heroes would manage to reverse the destruction of the Mad Titan.
The movie, set five years after the fatal snap of fingers that wiped out half of humanityhides a lot of details, but there is one of them that happens especially unnoticed and that it probably had a greater meaning about what would come in the following phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe than we would have thought at first.
In the tape, with half of humanity grieving the loss of the other half, somewhere in an abandoned parking lot in San Francisco, a rodent accidentally reactivated a strange device left in a van that prompted the return of Scott Lang, trapped in the Quantum Realm. A scene that of course was of great importance for the rest of the subsequent events and that it was hiding a small important detail for any Marvel fan.
To hunt it, yes, it is necessary to pull the remote control. If you pause the movie at exactly 22 minutes and 30 secondsyou will see a small sign near the van that says Lang’s name, accompanied by a number: 616.

The figure, far from being trivial, was already part of the original comics and was briefly mentioned by Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Homebut the concept of Earth 616 was formalized in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with everything related to the Multiverse. As we discovered in the latest adventures of Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), all the events we have witnessed so far in the MCU have occurred in the “616” version of the universewhich would be the “main universe” of history as we know it.
The question is: Was the sign posted? Avengers: Endgame to give fans a fun little wink? EITHER it was already serving to announce the events that would come in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the Multiverse Saga?
outlined in Spider-Man: No Way Homein Doctor Strange 2 and, especially, in the series Loki Y What would happen if…?the journeys between the different worlds that await the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe should reach a whole new level in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawhich is expected to be released in theaters on February 17, 2023 as one of Marvel Studios’ big debuts in the new year. Thus, it would not be a coincidence that in Avengers: Endgame the number 616 was shown to be directly associated with Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) character.
