Right now, we’re seeing a spike in animated films, with oldies like Sing 2 and Trolls on the list, alongside 2022’s The Bad Guys. (Many kids were just home from school for the last week and some change for winter break, which likely accounts for this unusual spike in interest.)

Knives Out: A Glass Onion Mystery marks the second Benoit Blanc mystery film from director Rian Johnson, whose 2019 film proved to be a smash hit with audiences. This time, Johnson takes us to a mysterious billionaire’s island, where Blanc is tasked with solving another head-scratching case. Daniel Craig returns as the charming detective, and is joined by Kate Hudson, Janelle Monae, Dave Bautista and Edward Norton.

Based on the stage musical of the same name, Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical follows the eponymous character, Matilda Wormwood, as she navigates going to a school led by a tricky headmaster. Along the way, she learns more about her love for reading and how it is connected to her telekinesis skills. Alisha Weir leads as the young girl, alongside Lashana Lynch, Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, and Emma Thompson.

The Invitation is a horror thriller following a young woman, Evie (Nathalie Emmanuel), as she connects with a long-lost cousin after the death of her mother. Her new family quickly embraces her and invites her to a wedding in the English countryside where she discovers their true intentions. This creepy flick also stars Thomas Doherty, Sean Pertwee, and Hugh Skinner.

The 2016 family comedy Trolls follows an optimistic troll, Poppy (Anna Kendrick), as she teams up with the more reserved Branch (Justin Timberlake) to rescue her friends after they’ve been kidnapped. The movie features tons of musical numbers and an all-star cast, including James Corden, Zooey Deschanel, and Christine Baranski.

Noah Baumbach‘s White Noise is based on the 1985 novel with the same name by Don DeLillo. The dry comedy stars Greta Gerwig and Adam Driver as husband-and-wife, Jack and Babette Gladney. The story takes place the 1980s and follows the family as they seek refuge from an airborne toxic event.

After Ever Happy is the fourth installment in the After film series starring Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as young lovers, Tessa Young and Hardin Scott. The sequel picks up right where its predecessor left off and finds the couple clashing over new troubles involving family trauma and anger management issues.

Action-comedy Bullet Train is pulling into Netflix after first premiering in theaters earlier this year. Brad Pitt stars in the David Leitch film as an assassin who faces off against global enemies all while traveling on a train. But he’s not the only star in this buzzy film, which also boasts a cast of Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, Bad Bunny and Sandra Bullock.

The 2021 animated comedy Sing 2 revisits Buster Moon as he reunites with his musical friends to try and make it big in a new city. After impressing a local talent mogul with their idea for a sci-fi musical featuring songs by fallen rock star, Clay Calloway, they embark on a mission to find Calloway and convince him to join them onstage. Matthew McConaughey voices as Buster, alongside Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Bobby Cannavale, and Taren Egerton.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the 2013 psychological thriller Side Effects follows a young woman as she takes an experimental antidepressant which seemingly results in the death of her husband. As the story continues, she is put on trial and must defend her innocence. Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Channing Tatum star in this movie.
